Pelvic exam – In some cases irregularities can be palpated in the pelvis.

Ultrasound – A transducer is either pressed against the abdominal skin or inserted into your vagina. Ultrasound imaging can identify cysts associated with endometriosis (endometriomas).

Laparoscopy – A surgeon makes a tiny incisions and inserts a slender viewing instrument (laparoscope) into the abdominal cavity, looking for endometrial tissue outside the uterus. This tissue may be biopsied or removed.
