Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a disease in which tissue that normally grows inside the uterus grows outside the uterus.
  • Painful periods (dysmenorrhea)
  • Pain with intercourse
  • Pain with bowel movements or urination
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Infertility
Pelvic exam –­ In some cases irregularities can be palpated in the pelvis.

Ultrasound – ­A transducer is either pressed against the abdominal skin or inserted into your vagina. Ultrasound imaging can identify cysts associated with endometriosis (endometriomas).

Laparoscopy – A surgeon makes a tiny incisions and inserts a slender viewing instrument (laparoscope) into the abdominal cavity, looking for endometrial tissue outside the uterus. This tissue may be biopsied or removed.

Dr. LaShay is a board-certified practicing gynecologist with specific interests in the areas of hormone balancing, metabolism, nutrition, and functional medicine.

She has special training in laparoendoscopic surgery and the treatment of endometriosis by completing a fellowship at Stanford under the direction of Camran Nezhat.

She also has extensive experience in the treatment of chronic pelvic pain from working at Kaiser Permanente. She believes in approaching each patient as an individual.
